- Have you ever stepped on an emotional landmine?
- Did your partner ever ask you what you felt, and you couldn't
identify your feelings?
- Did your partner ever express hurt or sadness, and then got
mad when you explained what to do with that feeling?
- Do you go round and round in the same argument, and end up
feeling resentful or hopeless?
- Do you long for deeper connection, but get stuck in patterns
that create distance and pain instead?
In this geek version of the couples seminar, we will explore when,
why, and how staying in your head affects your relationship.
On the other hand, you will also discover how judgments sometimes
masquerade as "feeling statements" and when it is actually better to
say "I think" rather than "I feel."
You will learn about five different love languages, and when to use
them.
Like the couple with the crossed signals in the cartoon, you may
discover that "intimacy" is not always sexual.
We will look at practical aspects of brain research which affect
insecure attachment, frozen responses, and how to create more
comfortable emotional contact.
In this workshop, you will learn practical tools to help your
relationship succeed:
- balance heart and head
- improve communication
- increase emotional understanding
- reduce conflict
- revitalize attraction
- have more fun as a couple
For couples in any stage of
relationship.
The skills you will learn in this workshop will get you off to a
good start as a couple, or help you get back on track and create a
healthier relationship if you have grown apart.
Many couples will also benefit from private follow-up sessions to
fine-tune their skills or to resolve more difficult or sensitive
issues. So I offer a bonus to participants in this workshop of a 20%
discount on your first 2 sessions of private couples counseling.

BIO
Edie Stone, MA, LPC, has been married for over 40 years to a banjo
player, but somehow they are still in love. Her husband specializes
in acoustic recording, and loves a nice pair of hypercardioid
ribbons. Edie has two adult sons, one is a software engineer and
philosopher who wears silly hats. The other is an artist who teaches
kids how to hunt trolls and bash each other with padded swords. Edie
is not a geek, but she is a bit of an anorak.

Professional background - Edie
Stone, MA, LPC
I have been happily married for over 40 years. I have
received professional training in:
- PACT - A Psychobiological Approach to Couples
Therapy®,
as developed by Stan Tatkin, PsyD, MFT. An exciting new approach
which combines neurobiology, attachment theory, and Gestalt.
Stan says, "PACT integrates mind and body functioning and gives
couples the tools to create a safe and secure, long-lasting
relationship." I have completed year one, and I am taking
further trainings this year. 2012-ongoing.
- PAIRS®
(Practical Application of Intimate Relationship Skills)
which I believe provides the clearest and most practical
tools for learning essential communication skills.
Materials developed by Lori Gordon, PhD. Local
teacher and mentor, Robin Temple, MSW. 2005-current.
- Hot
Monogamy™ which is a course in Certified Love
Education™ as developed by Pat Love, EdD, and her daughter
Kim McFadden. This approach includes information
based on recent research on the chemistry, physiology, and
emotional development of sexuality, love, passion, and
intimacy. 2007
- Couplehood
as
a Spiritual Path™, developed and taught by
Harville Hendrix, PhD, and his wife Helen LaKelly Hunt,
PhD. This material is a course in Imago
Education. The approach includes exploring the IMAGO
or unconscious image of the ideal partner. 2007
- "The spiritual path of healing
in couplehood has a unique aspect that other spiritual
paths (solitary, community, and service) do not have: it
provides an encounter with the bruised or missing pieces
of the self." Harville Hendrix
- IMAGO®
and Gestalt Relationship Training, Boulder
Psychotherapy Institute, Jaylynne Chase-Jacobsen, LCSW.
2004
- MA
in
Transpersonal Counseling Psychology, Naropa
